Project Objective
ClariKo is a mental health app designed to support users managing anxiety and depression through structured, daily in-app activities. The goal was to design a fully interactive UI/UX prototype that felt approachable, calming, and genuinely useful; featuring a gratitude diary, self-care checklist, mindfulness exercises, and direct access to certified counsellors. The target audience is everyday users seeking accessible mental health support from the comfort of their phone.
Solution
A competitive audit of existing gratitude and mindfulness apps revealed a saturated market built on oversimplified workflows with little room for personalization or self-expression. Research into current UI/UX trends supported this gap. Current studies show that 72% of users abandon wellness apps within the first week when the experience feels generic or rigid. While other apps with more enhanced personalized features and interactive elements report significantly higher long-term engagement and daily active usage; ClariKo was designed to close this market gap.
The interface centres around a calm, structured visual system featuring a soft lavender and warm brown tones which were chosen deliberately to reduce visual stress and invoke a sense of safety. A structured typographic hierarchy reinforces clarity and routine, giving users a sense of grounding as they move through daily tasks. Rounded corners and a consistent component library were applied throughout to create visual continuity which overall eliminated the sense of disconnection users often feel when navigating between screens. Each interaction, from logging a journal entry to completing a self-care checklist, was designed to feel intentional and rewarding rather than transactional. Finally, personalization was built into the core experience by incorporating dark and light mode options alongside activity logging which gives users agency over how they engage with the app; increasing comfort and long-term retention. The result is a UI that doesn't just look considered it behaves that way too.
Client Deliverables
The ClariKo prototype delivered a mental health app experience that meaningfully prioritizes the user at every touchpoint. By replacing oversimplified workflows with interactive personalized features, the design directly addresses the retention and engagement gaps identified in the market. Additionally, the final prototype gave the client a clear, presentation-ready vision of an app built to make a real impact on the daily lives of those navigating anxiety and depression.
